TBD 2021
Location:
New England States
Having witnessed the surging popularity of dirt road cycling in America, organizers recognized that New England possesses an exquisite network of trails, railbeds, aqueducts, canal paths, logging roads, and dirt roads. And these routes connect to glorious town centers rarely celebrated as tourist destinations.
Starting in July, 2021, The Tour of New England will create a COVID friendly four-day cycling tour that presents minimal negative impact to traffic and citizens but high impact for tourism and commerce.
THE CONCEPT
- The Tour of New England will be a four-day team-based stage race using a “Friendly Format”
- The route will touch each of the six New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont
- Organizers will NOT provide feed stations or rest stops, spurring teams to purchase food, beverages and supplies from local vendors.
- Riders must abide by all local traffic rules. Any police citations or warnings will result in time penalties and/or disqualification.
THE STAGES
July 2: Turner Falls, MA, to Brattleboro, VT
July 3: Westerly, RI to Putnam, CT
July 4: South Berwick, ME to Exeter, NH
July 5: Hardwick, MA to Hardwick, MA (Quabbin Reservoir)
RIDER FRIENDLY
- The core mission of organizers is to provide a superior cycling experience for every entrant, be they the first or final finisher.
- This includes an entry fee that is fair, challenging but not savage courses, a layout accessible to most regional riders, a schedule that respects personal lives, and amenities for all entrants, support staff, family and friends.
- Each day’s stage will finish near the center of New England during the early afternoon.
- Finish venues will offer local bike tours, kid-friendly activities, and outdoor dining that respects public health guidelines.
- Every team member, including its “director”, will receive a meal with a beer/drink ticket.
- Each finisher receives a souvenir.
